 More about B.A.R.N.

The Berks Agricultural Resource Network (B.A.R.N) serves Berks County agricultural and related food industries in many ways.  Through its membership and on-going projects, B.A.R.N. supports economic development efforts, marketing, policy development, and education.  The organization recognizes that agriculture represents the entire food industry chain from farmer to consumer.

B.A.R.N. serves as an over-arching coordinator between farm organization and advocacy groups within Berks County, working to improve the economic viability of agriculture.  Most have become members during the past five years.  Through its bi-monthly meetings, B.A.R.N. provides opportunities for the exchange of information and marketing opportunities.  Tours and workshops are offered throughout the year, along with individual technical assistance.

B.A.R.N. works closely with local media to help inform the general public about agriculture and the food industries, and the current events affecting these businesses.  It helps to sponsor research and studies such as recycling agricultural plastics, and publishes resource information such as the local farm market map.

B.A.R.N. assists local governments with information that will help guide their efforts to support and preserve agriculture and its related economic infrastructure in their communities.  Recently it provided vital information to the Berks County Commissioners on the Clean and Green program and its importance to the farming community.  B.A.R.N. works with agricultural organizations, local, state and national government officials, many who have become members of the organization.

B.A.R.N. encourages and supports the development of individual and regional networks that share an interest in the past, present and future viability of our agricultural community.
